Will the counselors/social workers inform parents/guardians about what the students talk about?

It is important to our counselors to build a trusting relationship with each student. Our counselors/social workers still uphold the client confidentiality act.

Counselors/social workers do share with students that they will always try to keep information confidential, but there are times when they must share the information with other adults.

These situations include:

If someone is hurting said student.

If the student wants to hurt another person.

If the student wants to hurt themselves.​​​​

Do the school counselors/social worker need to have permission from a parent/guardian in order to talk with the student?

They do not, school counselors/social workers are here to be a resource that our students can utilize. Their services are considered part of the school's curriculum. However, if your child is asked to participate in a small group setting then a parent/guardian permission is required.
What can your school counselors/social workers help me or my student with at Dawes?

A lot of different things, peer relationships, academic problems, class scheduling, personal problems, teacher problems, how to problem solve, organization skills and even exploring future career/college options.
