Will the counselors/social workers inform parents/guardians about what the students talk about?

  • It is important to our counselors to build a trusting relationship with each student. Our counselors/social workers still uphold the client confidentiality act.  

  • Counselors/social workers do share with students that they will always try to keep information confidential, but there are times when they must share the information with other adults.

    • These situations include:

      • If someone is hurting said student.

      • If the student wants to hurt another person.

      • If the student wants to hurt themselves.​​​​

Do the school counselors/social workers need to have permission from a parent/guardian in order to talk with the student?

  • They do not, school counselors/social workers are here to be a resource that our students can utilize. Their services are considered part of the school's curriculum. However, if your child is asked to participate in a small group setting then a parent/guardian permission is required.

What can your school counselors/social workers help me or my student with at Dawes?

  • A lot of different things, peer relationships, academic problems, class scheduling, personal problems, teacher problems, how to problem solve, organization skills and even exploring future career/college options.
